Douglas K. O'Connell joined Howd, Lavieri & Finch, LLP in 1984 and was named a Partner in 1989. His practice concentrates primarily in the area of taxation and its effect on corporations, partnerships, trusts, estates and individuals.

As a part of his Business and Commercial law practice, Mr. O'Connell has represented numerous clients in connection with the organization of new businesses, mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and dissolutions.

Mr. O'Connell also practices extensively in the area of Estate Planning and Trust and Estate Administration. For over twenty years, he has counseled on the tax aspects of planning for closely held businesses, the administration of trusts created for tax reduction or property control, and on contested probate matters.

Educated at the University of Connecticut, Mr. O'Connell received his law degree, cum laude, from Western New England College School of Law, after which time he received his masters in taxation from New York University School of Law. He is a member of the American, Connecticut and Litchfield County Bar Associations and is actively involved in many local civic and charitable organizations such as the United Way of Northwest Connecticut, the Winsted Rotary Club and the Torrington Board of Education.
